ROCKFISH

Rockfish fishing is a great fish to get kids started on fishing because they are not usually very difficult to catch.  If targeting Rockfish in deep water or in the heavy current you may need to use a lot of weight, which will necessitate heavier gear.  It is much more fun, in my opinion, to target these in the shallows when possible, although often the bigger ones are found deep.  Braided line is a must because its low-stretch qualities allow you to feel the bite even in deep water and make a good hookset.

Vermillion Rockfish

Vermillion rockfish are a type of rockfish found in the waters off the coast of San Diego. They are a popular target for sport fishing, as they are known to put up a good fight when hooked.

Vermillion rockfish can be found in depths of up to 200 feet, but are most commonly found between 60 and 120 feet. They prefer to hide among rocks and reefs, making them a challenge to catch.

Anglers targeting vermillion rockfish should use light tackle, as the fish are not very large. Live bait or lures that imitate small fish or squid are the best options for attracting bites.

When hooked, vermillion rockfish will often make short, powerful runs in an attempt to break free. They can also be quite acrobatic, making for an exciting fight. Once landed, they make excellent table fare and are considered by many to be the tastiest of all the rockfish species.

Goldeneye Rockfish

The Goldeneye Rockfish is a species of rockfish that is found in the waters off the coast of San Diego. This fish is known for its bright yellow eyes, which give it its name. The Goldeneye Rockfish is a popular target for fishermen, as it is a good size and fights well when hooked. This fish can be caught using a variety of methods, including bottom fishing, jigging, and trolling.

Blue Rock fish

Rockfish season is in full swing off the coast of San Diego, and anglers are seeing good numbers of blue rockfish.

Blue rockfish are a member of the snapper family and are prized for their excellent table fare. They average 1 to 2 pounds each, but fish up to 5 pounds are not uncommon.
